Artful Dodgers Open Studio-22A

Bring that unfinished project, new idea along with any materials you need, and gather with us in the studio at the Ocean County Artists’ Guild.
The Guild is your creative, safe, soft space to land and feel nurtured in your art journey! All levels are welcome and assistance is available if you need it.
 
These are drop-in sessions where you can get connected and create in a welcoming, casual, relaxed atmosphere. We are here to support you and help you live your best art life!

Adult Acrylics-Beginner

Date: January 10th, 2022 - February 14th, 2022

Time: 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM

Duration: 6-Week

Minimum 5 / Maximum 10

Students will learn the methods and techniques used by master artists to create a beautiful acrylic painting with a focus on their own interpretation of the theme, “Happy Hour.”  What does Happy Hour mean to you - cocktails, afternoon tea, a couple of hours curled up reading a good book, sketching in your sketchbook, a nap?  Learn how to select references, sketch/plan composition, tone canvas, underpainting, basic color theory and color mixing, how to block-in and glaze color, add textures, and refine/finish the painting. 

Bring a pencil.  All other materials and supplies provided by the instructor/Guild. 
(Live in person with option to join the class remotely)

However, students who prefer to use their own materials may bring them.
Students may bring in objects or other references to use to paint their own personal interpretation of “Happy Hour.”

Adult Oils-Beginner/Intermediate Nocturnal Scenes 22A

Date: January 11th, 2022 - February 15th, 2022

Time: 9:30 AM- 11:30 PM

Duration: 6-Week

Minimum 5 / Maximum 10

Students will learn the methods and techniques used by master artists to create a beautiful oil painting with a focus on nocturnal scenes.  Learn how to select references, sketch/plan composition, tone canvas, underpainting, basic color theory and color mixing, how to block-in and glaze color, add textures, and refine/finish the painting. 

Bring a pencil.  All other materials and supplies provided by the instructor.   
However, students who prefer to use their own materials may bring them.
Students may bring in their own reference photos to use to paint their nocturnal scene.

 This Class is for intermediate and advanced students (ages 18 and up) whose work may require a second look. Good art starts in your brain as a concept: how do you approach that blank canvas? What’s the mood of the painting? What’s the medium, are you open to the challenge of a different medium?

In answering those questions, others will arise: Is the drawing correct?, did I consider color harmony and mood? Do I need help with color mixing? Is my focal point clear? Do the values play light against dark?How do line and edges play together? Is there a different way to approach the subject?

Students bring their own materials and reference material. 
Reference material is available as well as a different still life every week
This is a relaxed atmosphere where students encourage each other and enjoy each other’s accomplishments.

Winter Watercolors22A

Adult Beginner Drawing-Foreshortening 22A

Date: January 12th, 2022 - February 16th, 2022

Time: 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM

Duration: 6-Week

Minimum 5 / Maximum 10

Foreshortening occurs when an object appears compressed and distorted when seen from a particular viewpoint.  Foreshortening in the depiction of the human figure was perfected during the Italian Renaissance.  Learn how to use this classical drawing technique to draw figurative works in black and white and maximize visual impact and depth in your work.  

Bring a sketchbook and pencil.  Use of all other materials/supplies provided by the instructor. Students may bring their own reference photos if they prefer in later sessions of the class. (Live in person with option to join the class remotely)

Painting the Artist Within - Music and Movement 22a

Date: January 12th, 2022 - February 16th, 2022

Adult/Teen-Acrylics (Beginner/Intermediate) 

Learn how to create beautiful, loose, expressive acrylic paintings.  What does music look like?  How do we create a feeling of movement and a sense of distance through time on a 2-dimensional surface?  For this session, students will reflect on the music and movement they love and discover ways they can create paintings that express and capture the beauty and excitement of those auditory and kinetic experiences.

Linocut for Beginners-Winter22a

This class is designed for the beginner to experience the creative joy using cutting tools to produce simple one-, two- and three-color works. Emphasis will be on technique and safety. Participants should come to the first class with a simple pencil drawing on a 4 x 6 piece of paper.

Introduction to Pastel Painting 22A

ONE DAY CLASS
Ever been curious about pastel but aren’t quite ready to commit? This course is perfect for you! We will be exploring the medium of pastel and the variety of pastel products, sticks and brands available as well as paper selection. You will work on a number of quick painting exercises to get a feel for what the medium can do with your marks.

Materials for the class (2-sheets of pastel paper included in price, pastels will be available for use.) or bring your own.

Painting Snow with Pastel 22A

Date: February 4th, 2022 - March 18th, 2022

Time: 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM

NO CLASS ON MARCH 4TH 

Bring your snow paintings to life! Snow reflects so many beautiful colors in the bright sun and in the deep shadows. We will work with a variety of techniques to highlight those colors and create soft billowing piles of snow. We will be doing some quick exercises as well as finished pieces.

Work from your own photos or follow along with Renee.
