SUMMARY:OCAG193 Techniques for Shading & Shadowing Objects in Watercolor
DESCRIPTION:4 weeks – Mondays\, June 3\, 10\, 17\, 24\, 2024\nInstructor: Leona Lavone \nHave you ever tried to paint shadows in watercolor and been disappointed with the result? Me too. Sometimes the color is wrong\, the results look muddy\, or they just do not look convincing. \nSo how should you shade and paint shadows in watercolors? Painting lifelike and convincing shadows begins with a good understanding of how light\, shade\, and shadows work in the real world. Shadows are never just gray\, and mixing the correct colors for shadows depends on the colors of the object and its surroundings. \nIn this class we will explore different methods you can use to add convincing Glowing Shadows and how to use Color to Deepen the Shaded area of objects in your artwork. \nNote: Reference photos will be supplied. \n\nBring basic watercolor supplies.\nTube watercolors\, watercolor brushes\, Watercolor Paper 140lb\,\nPalette or mixing tray\, paper towels\, pencil\, low tack white masking tape – Not colored tape\nspritz bottle\, container for water ex: large sour cream container/small bucket.\nBring a board or a firm surface to tape your watercolor paper on to for support.\n\nIf you are just starting out here are some suggestions that you can order from Amazon:

SUMMARY:July 2024 in the Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception is July 7th from 1-4 PM\nThe July show will be on view through July 29th\nSee website for hours. \nStudio – Members Choice Theme – “Catch a Wave” \nGallery 1 – Lorraine Dey (Acrylics & Watercolor)\n\n \nGallery 2 – Alexandra Zubritsky (Acrylics) \n \n Experimenting with fluid media\, whimsical images and ocean-based themes\, Alexandra Zubritzky\, a Toms River based artist\, is looking forward to her first solo exhibit.\nAs a child watching her father painting in his studio Alexandra knew she wanted art to be her vocation in life early on. After graduating the School of Visual Arts in NYC she secured a graphic Arts Supervisory position with the Ocean County Library. Over thirty years of service she designed stage scenes\, marketing materials\, posters and billboards as well as managing a large department. Alexandra has won awards both in the Graphic Arts industry and in juried art exhibits throughout the years.\nSince retirement she has pursued her personal artistic endeavors\, and\, living close to the sea she finds much inspiration\, beauty and magic on the coast. Worked primarily in acrylics\, “Impressions from the Sea” creates an intersection between realism and aquatic fantasy.  \n  \n  \nPop-up – Terry Konn – Ceramics \nTerry Marie is a multimedia artist. She paints in watercolor\, acrylic and oil\, and enjoys several other artistic mediums\, including ceramics\, sculpture\, paper sculpture\, charcoal\, and stained glass. Since she was a child\, Terry Marie has always enjoyed the creative process. She began her education at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland\, CA. In the late 1970s\, her work as a young artist was exhibited in small galleries outside of San Francisco. She left school and returned to New Jersey\, because of family obligations. For economic reasons\, she switched her academic focus to healthcare. She has spent the last 40 years as a healthcare professional and professor. Art has always provided stress relief and pure enjoyment for her. She tries to capture moments in time that reflect the beauty of life and tell stories of humanity in her pieces. \nThe show Multimedia Interpretations by artist Terry Marie consists of ceramic\, paper and wire sculptures that provoke whimsical and colorful impressions of the real and imaginary creatures and the world around us. Painted ceramic tiles create a beautiful vision of underwater life. It allows us to be playful and joyous with what we imagine as a harmonious life to be surrounded by the wavering tides. Other whimsical pieces provoke memories of our child-like imaginations and the spirit of fun. With the incorporation of twigs\, flowers\, sand and seeds\, paper sculpture allows our imagination to use nature to create magical impressions of mother nature. Her wire sculptures provide another dimension to the interpretation of our imagination. The show will lighten your heart with whimsy and joy\n

SUMMARY:OCAG195 The Art of Asemic Writing & Watercolor
DESCRIPTION:FLASH\, you are in luck!!\nThis instructor is NOW offering a per diem pricing:\n$20 members & $25 non-members for those who missed the beginning of this class session.\nThis per class fee can be paid to instructor at time of class.\nNOTE: Please contact Instructor if you plan to take advantage of this offer. \nThis is a 4-week class. Mondays July 8\, 15\, 22\, 29; 9:30-12:00pm\nStudents Choice Watercolors or Acrylics (wc-adult\, acrylic-adult\, abstract\, mixed-media). Instructor: Leona Lavone\n(summer\, wc-adult\, teen\, teens) \nAsemic writing is markings whether it be scribbles\, scratches\, brush strokes\, symbols or stitching that resemble handwritten words and sentences\, but have no recognizable content\, words or meaning. They are simply visual elements often used in mixed media and abstract artwork. The nature of asemic writing often results in patterns\, therefore can be a way of incorporating texture to artwork.  \nThe process of Asemic writing takes us back to the primitive and child like scribbles before we learned how to write\, helping us tap into our innate artistic nature. Because of its rhythmic and repetitive process\, it can also be a mindful and meditative practice. \nJoin me as we explore a variety of techniques utilizing different writing tools as well as explore different writing methods to shift the feel and look of your asemic writing. You will then use your pieces to create your one of a kind Watercolor Paintings. \nBring basic watercolor supplies. \n\nA Sharpie Pen or any Waterproof Pen\nTube watercolors\, watercolor brushes\, Watercolor Paper 140lb\, Palette or mixing tray\, paper towels\, pencil\, low tack white masking tape – Not colored tape\, spritz bottle\, container for water ex: large sour cream container/small bucket.\nBring a board or a firm surface to tape your watercolor paper on to for support.\n\nIf you are just starting out here are some suggestions that you can order from Amazon: \n \n
