SUMMARY:August Gallery Reception
DESCRIPTION:AUGUST GALLERY RECEPTION \nAugust 3rd \n1:00 PM – 4:00 PM \nMembers Studio:  “Under the Sea” \nGallery 1:  Jessica Murga \n \nArtists Bio:  \nJessica Murga is a photographer and art educator who has been exploring various artistic mediums for over 20 years. Her work is inspired by her passions for travel\, nature and creative expression\, which she weaves together to craft unique and meaningful pieces. Jessica’s art reflects a deep curiosity about the world and a love for capturing beauty in unexpected places. \n \nArtists Statement: \nMy work explores the intersection of traditional mediums combined with unconventional materials. By adding embroidery to unexpected surfaces such as photographs\, I challenge the boundaries of both medium and meaning. This experimental approach allows me to blend texture and tactile detail creating new ways to see familiar objects. \nGallery 2:  Deb Savo \n \n \nDeborah Savo grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and has had a love of art from a very small age. Her mother was very creative and encouraged her to explore her creativity. \nDeb attended Moore College of Art in Philadelphia majoring in illustration with a minor in painting. She retired in 2014 after over 30 years in design and illustration and has been pursuing her dream of painting ever since. She loves to further her knowledge by attending various workshops and taking a few classes locally. One of her favorite things is to come to the Sunday Portrait Workshop at the Ocean County Artists’ Guild. \nDeb has always admired the Impressionist painters and their ability to portray light and tries to incorporate that in her paintings. She paints many commissioned pet portraits that have grown out of her love of animals. She also loves to paint people and a little landscape painting. \nDeb and her husband live in Brigantine. She has participated in many community art activities in Brigantine\, including the Artwalk\, the Artist Showcase at the Brigantine Community Center\, Art pop-Ups\, and the Brigantine Arts Fine Arts Festival. In 2021 she won first place an art competition held by the Elks. Last year she painted an electrical box in the center of town. \nYou can view many of her paintings on her Facebook page Deb Savo Paintings.    https://www.facebook.com/debsavopaintings \nPop-Up Gallery:  Leona Lavone \n \nArtists Bio: \nLeona Lavone – Artist & Instructor \n“Art Keeps You Young at Heart” \nWith over 27 years of teaching experience (1999–2026)\, Leona Lavone is a passionate artist and instructor dedicated to sharing creativity\, building confidence\, and inspiring joy through art. Her teaching style is welcoming\, encouraging\, and rooted in the belief that art is for everyone—no matter your age or experience. \nLeona teaches a wide range of mediums including watercolor\, acrylics\, and mixed media\, and is known for her playful and expressive approach she calls her “Artsy Art Bucket.” Her classes\, workshops\, and demonstrations are offered throughout the year at art associations and community spaces\, where she creates an uplifting environment for students to explore and grow. \nHer artistic journey began long before teaching—spending over a decade immersing herself in watercolor workshops during the 1990s. In 1999\, she began teaching at the Ocean County Artists Guild in Island Heights\, New Jersey\, where she continues to inspire students today. \nIn addition to teaching\, Leona played a key role in coordinating Visiting Artist Workshops at the Guild. She managed all aspects of these events\, from artist communication and scheduling to hosting and ensuring each workshop ran smoothly creating memorable experiences for both artists and participants. This hands-on involvement expanded her artistic knowledge and deepened her connection to the creative community. \nIn 2025\, Leona founded the Joyful Art Collective\, a heart-centered creative experience designed to bring relaxation\, connection\, and inspiration through art. Held every two months at the Ocean County Artists Guild\, these gatherings blend simple art projects\, gentle movement\, and uplifting practices to help participants reconnect with creativity and joy in a welcoming\, supportive environment. \nLeona’s passion for sharing art extends beyond traditional classrooms. In 2014\, she developed and led an Arts & Crafts program for seniors in a residential community\, working with groups of 20–30 participants and discovering new ways to connect through creativity. She has also taught youth programs\, working with students ages 5–18\, and continues to embrace opportunities to teach across generations. \nA published creator\, Leona has designed a series of artist journals and planners available on Amazon\, including: \n· Note and Art Journal: Book for Writing and Sketching \n· Thumbnail Journal: For Artists \n· Weekly Planner – Yellow Pants \n· Weekly Planner: Artsy \n· Weekly Planner 2: My Schedule \nToday\, Leona continues to evolve as both an artist and educator—offering classes\, workshops\, and creative experiences that encourage others to relax\, explore\, and reconnect with their inner artist. \nShe proudly teaches students of all ages… from 5 to 100 (literally!).

SUMMARY:Drawing with Joseph Rogine
DESCRIPTION:1:00 PM – 3:00 PM \nThis class is being offered to ages 12 and up! \n$20.00 for members per class \n$25.00 for non members per class \nInstructor: Joseph Rogine \nThese classes are designed for both beginning to advanced students who want to sharpen their skills in drawing. I have taught students for over 25 years who have never picked up a pencil to draw to those who have been quite advanced. \nIt is an academic course\, (academic being defined as that which can be taught). Drawings are created by copying master drawings\, simple to complex still-life objects and classical plaster casts. The student usually begins by copying a master drawing that is supplied to them. \nAll students start out using graphite pencils with grades of 2H HB 2B. The capabilities and limitations of drawing materials and drawing instruments are discussed at length along with their proper handling. Classes are essentially about learning how to see nature and the world as an artist sees it\, through the language and medium of drawing. \nThe student’s eye will gradually become trained and sensitive on how to compose a layout on the page\, assessing proportion\, elementary perspective\, gauge angles\, identify shapes\, access the degree of curvature of forms\, locate hidden movements and linear rhythms\, the structure and modeling of form and the study of light and shade. This opens a whole new world towards a visual literacy that was very common in school curricula 100 to 150 years ago. \nDepending on a students’ progress and particular interest repeat students are free to experiment with various drawing mediums like charcoal\, pastel pencil\, pen and ink etc.\, along with the drawing surfaces applicable to their chosen medium. Joseph Rogine supply list 2024. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Joseph Rogine at 732-349-6859\, or by email at info@ocartistsguild.org. SUMMARY:D.Y.O.T. with Instruction with Carol Colvin
DESCRIPTION:D.Y.O.T. with Instruction with Carol Colvin \nAugust 5\, 12\, 19\, 26\, September 2\, 16\, 23\, 20 \n3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.   \nMembers:  $160 \nNon-members:  $200 \nHello members\, \nMy new class is starting\, and I will continue to set up a still-life\, and instruct students with their own projects\, but . . .Ever get frustrated with a watercolor you just can’t get right?  Been there\, done that.  Some time ago I did a portrait of a niece in watercolor.  Loved the tilt of her head and the flowers in her hair (she was a bridesmaid I think); but at that time I could not achieve the softness of her face in paint.  So\, I went over the entire work with pastels\, which are soft and blend beautifully.  Join me in class\, beginning April 1\, 3:30 – 5:30\, for 8 weeks.  $160 members\, $200 for non-members.  I will supply the pastels.  Doesn’t have to be a portrait that you want to enhance\, could be landscape\, still-life or abstract.  So much fun to get messy with your materials. \nHere is Sarah
