June 2022 Solo Artists Gallery Exhibit

Artists' talks from June 5th Gallery Opening

Please come by the Guild thru June 26th to view all of our galleries in person.

Joyce Wasserman (gallery 1) “Brush Strokes” is a new exhibition at the Ocean County Artists Guild from June 5 - June 28 showcasing a diverse collection of acrylic on canvas paintings by Joyce Wasserman of Manalapan, New Jersey. In her first solo show, Joyce will display art that explores bold colors with many different themes inspired by the world around her. Joyce was raised on Staten Island but has lived in New Jersey for more than 30 years and spends much of the summer at the Jersey Shore. She also paints custom pet portraits, has participated in the Belmar Art Walk and displays her art regularly at the Freehold Art Gallery

Suzanne Schleck (gallery 2) Learning to paint icons with egg tempera and gold leaf has been a totally new experience for me. I work with egg yolk and ground pigment on boards covered with traditional gesso (rabbit skin glue, chalk and marble dust), and work within a tradition that has existed and been evolving since at least the 5th century(CE). Iconographers were influential in pre-Renaissance Italian painting as they fled the Muslim invasions from the East. Icons were preserved as a living tradition in Orthodox churches, and have been discovered to be relevant by Christians in Roman Catholic and Protestant Churches since the Second World War. Today icons are painted with either egg tempera or acrylics primarily, although there are artists experimenting with encaustic and mosaic. Technique (schleckicons.com)
