June at OCAG: A Month Full of Creativity, Community, and Inspiration
June is bursting with creative energy at the OCAG and we are excited to welcome members, students, families, and visitors to a full month of classes, workshops, and events.
- Watercolor lovers will find plenty of seaside inspiration throughout June. Leona Lavonne will lead several beautiful coastal-themed classes, including Monday Morning Watercolor – Sailboats by the Sea, Coastal Inspirations, Coastal Sunrises and Sunsets, and Sweet Summer Watercolors. These relaxing sessions invite artists to explore shimmering water, soft skies, ocean waves, beach dunes, summer fruit, and cheerful seasonal scenes.
- For artists looking to grow their drawing skills, Drawing with Joe Rogine continues on Monday afternoons throughout June. Open to ages 12 and up, this class welcomes students of all levels, from those who have never picked up a pencil to those looking to refine their abilities. Teens can also enjoy dedicated instruction through Teen Class with Carol Colvin, where students are encouraged to choose their own subject matter while receiving guidance in drawing, materials, color choices, and composition.
- Young artists will have their own opportunities to shine with June Children’s Classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Each week brings a fun new theme, including butterflies, musical shapes, and jungle animals. These classes help children explore painting techniques, develop confidence, and take home a unique masterpiece after every session.
- OCAG also offers inspiring opportunities for independent and experimental artists. Members can join Do Your Own Thing sessions during the week and on select evenings or weekends, bringing their own supplies, lunch, dinner, or snacks while enjoying time to create in community. Printmakers can take part in Print Group, while artists interested in gelli plate printing can join Gelli Plate Do Your Own Thing for an afternoon of marks, stencils, color, and creative discovery.
- For those who enjoy working from life, June includes several figure and portrait opportunities. Tuesday Night Figure Drawing – Long Pose and Saturday Morning Figure Drawing – Short Pose offer undraped figure drawing sessions for adults, while the Sunday Portrait Workshop provides another welcoming space for artists to practice and develop observational skills.
- Special workshops and events round out the month with even more ways to create and connect. Texture Explosion! Creating Dimensional Paintings with Leona Lavonne invites artists to push beyond the flat surface and explore raised textures, layered materials, and sculptural painting techniques. Paint and Sip at Battle River Brewing offers a fun instructor-led acrylic paint night with supplies, guidance, and refreshments included. The Joyful Art Collective provides a welcoming space to reconnect with creativity, unwind through art, and enjoy the process with no experience needed.
- June also brings opportunities to gather, reflect, and talk about art. Members and friends can enjoy Art Book Club, the Island Heights Cultural and Heritage Lecture Series, and Art Chat, where artists of all mediums are invited to share work, exchange feedback, and connect with the local creative community.
- Alongside our classes and workshops, don’t miss the many events happening at the Guild this month, including Member Show Receiving, the Gallery Reception, Quarterly Member Meeting, Song Circle, and the Acoustic Concert featuring Bill Doerge and Family.

Happy 92nd Birthday to Katie Stacy
Please join us in wishing a very happy 92nd birthday to OCAG’s longest-standing member, Katie Stacy! Katie has been a treasured part of the Guild family since the 1960s, and we are honored to celebrate this incredible milestone with her. Reaching 92 years is a remarkable achievement, and we send Katie our warmest wishes for good health, happiness, and many more joyful moments surrounded by art, family, and friends. On Sunday, after Lee’s portrait class, we celebrated Katie with a special surprise champagne toast and barbecue in her honor. We also hung a photo of Katie and her husband on the wall in the blue room. Happy Birthday, Katie!
